Victoria was queen at just 18 years of age and became a towering presence over the course oF her reign. Together with her beloved husband Albert, they were patrons of many institutions.

Bereft after the death of Albert, Victoria received criticism for her long retreat from the public eye. Although in mourning for the remainder of her life, she did regain her public role and celebrated her Golden and Diamond Jubilees. Mother to nine children, indomitable, tenacious, dutiful, Victoria died aged 81.
